Custom medals in short runs, with no mould
A cast metal medal needs a mould, and so a big order. 3D printing starts straight from the file.
Metal medal makers spread the cost of the mould across a large number of pieces. For a village trail race, a school fun run or a youth tournament, that logic doesn't fit: either you settle for a catalogue medal with a sticker in the middle, or you order far more than you need.
In our workshop, every medal is printed from the 3D model. No tooling, no minimum order. You order for the number of finishers you expect, and if late entries mean you need a few more, the file is already there.
To be straight about price: we don't sell the cheapest medal on the market. For a standard round medal in large numbers, metal or a catalogue will cost less. 3D printing makes sense when you want a shape nobody else has, in a sensible quantity.
Custom race medals for trail runs, road races and tournaments
Shapes that make casting expensive and that 3D printing handles with no extra tooling.
- Topographic medal : The course elevation in relief: the main climb, the col, the summit. Runners recognise the profile they have just slogged up.
- Landmark silhouette : A medal cut to the outline of a monument, a bridge or the course loop, rather than a plain disc.
- Several colours : Race logo and lettering in their own colours, printed directly with no sticker or added paint.
- Different text on each : Runner's name, finishing time, category or position: every medal can carry its own inscription.
- Charity and community runs : Charity runs, school cross-country, neighbourhood races: a medal that recalls the cause or the place.
- Tournaments and fêtes : Youth football tournaments, summer fêtes, team-building days: a medal that looks like the event, for every participant.
From your logo to the medal round their neck
- Send the logo and the idea : Race logo, a GPX track or a map screenshot, a photo of the landmark, and how many medals you need. The contact form accepts files.
- Approve the 3D model : We design the medal, with a slot or loop for the ribbon, and send views of the model with the quote. Nothing is printed until you agree.
- Printing the run : The medals are printed in FDM, in one or several colours. If each one carries a name, we work from the list you sent.
- Collection or delivery : Collect from the workshop in the Minimes district of Toulouse, or we send them anywhere in France by Mondial Relay or Colissimo, packed in batches.
Cast metal or 3D printed medals: how they compare
The two processes answer different needs. Here is what separates them.
For several thousand identical medals, go for metal. For a run of a few dozen to a few hundred, with a shape that tells the story of your race, 3D printing is the better fit. The quote shows what drives the cost of each piece: size, number of colours and print time.
| Criterion | Cast metal | 3D printing |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum quantity | Often several hundred pieces | None, from a single medal |
| Tooling | A mould for each design | None, printed straight from the 3D file |
| Shape | Free, but every shape needs its own mould | Free: relief, cut-outs, volume |
| Different text per medal | Engraving added piece by piece | Built into the model, no tooling |
| Lead time | Several weeks once the mould is included | Depends on the quantity, shown on the quote |
| Unit price in large runs | Lower: metal wins at high volume | Higher, as machine time repeats for every piece |
| Feel and weight | Heavy, cool to the touch, metallic | Light, plastic, bold colours |
Custom race medals: what to plan for
Get in touch early, especially for a first design: drawing and approving the medal takes as long as printing it. Give us the race date in your first message.
For a topographic medal, a GPX file or a screenshot of the route is enough. We simplify the relief so it stays readable on something that fits in the palm of your hand. For the podium or a special prize, have a look at our custom trophies.
Organising an event outside France? Online orders are delivered within France only. For another country, contact us and we'll tell you whether we can send the medals and what it would cost. You can write to us in English.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for personalised medals?
There isn't one. We print a single medal as readily as several hundred. The design is drawn once, then every piece is printed from the same file.
Is the ribbon taken care of?
The medal is designed with a slot or loop sized for your ribbon. Tell us if you already have ribbons or would like us to handle them, and it will be set out on the quote.
Can each medal show a different name or time?
Yes. Send us the list in a spreadsheet: each medal is modelled with its own text, with no extra tooling.
Is a 3D printed medal sturdy?
It copes with being worn, thrown loose into a kit bag and hung on a wall. We give it enough thickness and avoid parts thin enough to snap.
Can we have gold, silver or bronze medals?
Yes, with gold or silver filament, or paint after sanding, which helps set a podium apart. It still looks and feels like plastic: if you want the weight of metal, cast metal is the better option.
Can you make a medal showing the elevation of our course?
Yes, it's one of the requests best suited to 3D printing. A GPX file or a map screenshot is all we need to model the relief.
How long does it take to make the medals?
It depends on the quantity, the size and the number of colours. The timescale is on the quote, which is why we ask for the race date from the start.
Can you post the medals to us?
Yes, anywhere in France by Mondial Relay or Colissimo. For another country, contact us first. If you are in Toulouse, you can also collect them from the workshop on boulevard Silvio Trentin.
